971,241. Making hobs by casting; making milling cutters. W. FERD KLINGELNBERG SOHNE G.m.b.H. Dec. 12, 1962 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 46896/62. Headings B3A, B3F and B3K. A hob comprises cutting-blade strips 2 of H.S.S. or hard metal connected to a steel body I by a low melting point alloy 3 cast around the blade-roots, the body having annular grooves of trapezoidal cross-section and the blades having inter-fitting pegs 5 which are pushed radially into place. The roots of the pegs are recessed along their front faces to interfit as shown. The blades are held outwardly during a comparator which emits a gauge unit signal casting by springs 10. The blades can be initially milled and ground by being held by cast metal in a work-holder with their outer surfaces lying on a cylindrical surface. Specification 939,881 is referred to.
