[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a method of making a slitting cutter, an outer hard metal member having a circular peripheral portion providing the cutting edge, is disposed concentrically with an inner metal member such that a space is provided between them, the adjacent surfaces of both members being provided with one or more keying projections or recesses, and said space is then filled with a iow melting point metal which will expand on cooling. An outer ring of cemented tungsten carbide, having rods 2 of similar metal, or of high melting point alloy or high nickel steel fixed therein, is assembled with a hardened steel boss 3 having hardened steel projections 5 preferably fixed in an annular groove 4, the assembly is heated to about 150‹C. and a low melting point alloy is poured into the space between the ring and the boss. In a modification the inner surface of the ring is provided with an annular groove and the projections may be omitted from both members, corresponding flats being machined on both members to prevent relative rotation. The projection of one or both members may be ground to length so that the inner member is a push fit in the outer member. In a further modification, one of the members having an annular groove may be sectioned at right-angles to its axis, the sections being secured together to grip the said projections between them in the groove.
