Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently cut a superhigh hard gear by a hob cutter by improving considerably the strength of the portion frequently operated of a cutting tool to thereby advantageously countermeasure against the chipping or other damage of the cutting tool and also utilizing the low toughness material such as carbide alloy or the like. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of cutting edges 2 are formed on the peripheral surface portion of a hob cutter main portion 1 in such a manner that the rake surface 3 thereof is formed by two planes and forms an angle beta with respect to the central axis 4. Accordingly, the strength of the portion frequently operated of the cutting edge 2 is considerably improved to thereby advantageously countermeasure against the chipping or other damage of the cuttting edge and to enhance the strength of the cutting edge. Thus, it can employ low toughness material such as carbide alloy or the like (such a high refractory material) to thereby efficiently cut the gear and to form a superhigh hard gear.
