665,983. Making compound machine knives. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.). June 5, 1948 [Aug. 7, 1947], No. 21548/47. Class 83 (ii). [Also in Groups I and VI] A circular slicing machine knife comprises a body 10 coated with a hard metal annular blade 15 which in itself forms the cutting edge throughout the useful life of the knife. The body 10 may be of mild steel provided with a peripheral coating 15 of'chromium, the coating being deposited electrolytically or in a molten state by means of a flame arc-welding device to a thickness of about 0.5 mm. The knife may be of dished form, the coating 15 being on the concave face 11, and the convex face being bevelled at 13. The periphery is ground at 14 to form the cutting edge.
