Moulds are coated with a slurry, e.g. an aqueous slurry, of glass particles which is dried before casting. By glass is meant a fused inorganic material such as silica or a mixture of silicates, borates, or phosphates that is supercooled into an amorphous substance that is rigid at room temperatures and soft at high temperatures. Examples are commercial and industrial glasses, frits, glass bullets, and fused silica.
