739,558. Cellulated silica. PITTSBURGH CORNING CORPORATION. June 2, 1954 [Aug. 19, 1953], No. 16304/54. Class 56. A method of preparing cellulated silica comprises heating a pulverulent mixture comprising silica and a small amount of a carbonaceous cellulating agent to a temperature sufficient to cause the pulverulent mixture to sinter and cellulate, the cellulating agent being separately produced by calcining a mixture of a siliceous material such as silica sand, quartz, chalcedony or jasper, and a carbonaceous material. The mixture is segmented before being sintered and cellulated.
