815,938. Mould and core materials. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. Dec. 20, 1957 [Dec. 20, 1956], No. 38925/56. Class 83 (1). Moulds and cores are made of powdered refractory such as zircon, silica sand and fireclay grog mixed with sodium-silicate solution and anhydrous calcium mono-acid-phosphate, and hardened by CO 2 , Organic substances such as starch, sugar, dextrin may also be added. The phosphate eliminates the fritting-action, which occurs at high temperatures and makes core or mould material difficult to remove from the casting. The amount of phosphate depends upon the amount of sodium silicate present, and may vary from an equal quantity by weight of the sodium silicate, calculated as a dry-weight, down to one eighth thereof. The term sodiumsilicate includes sodium-metasilicate and its hydrates.
