1,006,375. Making refractory moulds. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 6, 1962 [Nov. 9, 1961], No. 41946/62. Heading B5A. In a method of making a metal casting mould by casting a slurry of a granular refractory material and a silica sol around a pattern, a buffer solution containing ammonium acetate for adjusting the time of gelation is added to the slurry. The silica sol may be obtained by hydrolysis in an aqueous medium which may contain alcohol of an organo silicate, e.g. ethyl silicate, with, e.g. hydrochloric acid. The Specification describes three detailed examples.
