969,835. Change speed gear; differential gear. ERCOLE S.p.A. Feb. 11, 1963 [Dec. 5, 1962], No. 5450/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B7] A change speed gear for a walk-type tractor (see also Division B7) comprises an input shaft 28 on which are fixed gears 36, 37, 38 and 39, the gears 36, 39 permanently mesh gears 40, 43 freely rotatable on and selectively clutched at 42a, 44a to an output shaft 29 whilst the gears 37, 38 are selectively meshed with sliding gears 41, 42. The shaft 29 drives the crown wheel 46 of a bevel differential gear 47 . . . 51. The differential may be locked by device 52 (Fig. 6) which locks planet carrier 47 to shaft 30. Reverse speed is provided by moving gear 45 into mesh with gears 37 and 42. Power takeoff shaft 22 is engaged by sliding clutch member 35 into engagement with teeth 35a on shaft 28. Shaft 18 of implement 16 is driven through worm-wheel 126, shaft 123, bench gears 121, 122 and ratchet clutch 119, 101 which prevents rotation of implement 16 when reverse gear is engaged, from shaft 96 which may be driven from either shaft 29 through face clutch teeth 98a, 44b or from shaft 28 through clutch 35 and gears 98, 99.
