Abstract
969,777. Winding yarns. LEESONA CORPORATION. June 18, 1962 [June 26, 1961], No. 23423/62. Heading D1J. A yarn winding machine has a main slub catcher 18 that causes the yarn Y to be broken on detecting a slub, a transfer arm 25 that swings from the position shown in full lines to the position shown in broken lines to sever off the yarn length that extends between a plate 36 and the slub catcher 18 before picking up the severed yarn end and transferring it to a knotter tying said severed end to the broken end of the yarn package, said machine having an auxiliary slub catcher 40 through which the yarn Y is pulled by the transfer arm 25 as said arm transfers the severed yarn end to the knotter. The auxiliary slub catcher is disposed to one side of the normal path of movement of the yarn and comprises upper and lower members 46,47, respectively, Fig. 4, pivotally connected at 50, the lower member being a fixed member. A spring 51 biases the member 46, 47 together in a manner leaving a gap 42 therebetween the magnitude of this gap being adjustable by means of a set screw 55. If a snarl or slub is caught in the auxiliary slub catcher 40 during the tying cycle, the yarn will either be broken or pulled from the transfer arm 25 and the transfer arm will then make a second attempt to pick up the free end and lay it in the knotter. In order that the transfer arm shall not, during this second attempt, pull the slub or snarl out of the metering gap 42, the upper and lower members 46, 47 thereof are formed with guide lips or flanges 43, 44 that project appreciably from the faces of the members 46, 47 to engage and arrest outward movement of the slub or snarl so that the latter cannot be caused to be withdrawn and thence carried toward the knotter and so defeat the auxiliary slub catcher through by-passing it. An arcuate hold down plate 45 may extend from the upper member 46 of the auxiliary slub catcher. The apparatus includes an upwardly biased arm 28 for detecting when the yarn Y is broken and so initiate movement of the transfer arm 25; a wax applying device W; a suction aperture 32 through which rejected portions of the yarn Y are removed, a suction aperture 34 holding the free end of a reserve supply of yarn and a pin 17 for detecting when the supply of yarn is exhausted. Specifications 704,931 and 969,776 are referred to.
