969,469. Ships' stabilizing fins. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. June 26, 1963, No. 25388/63. Heading B7M. An arrangement for stabilizing ships consists of a retractable, angularly adjustable fin 1 movable up and down parallel to itself by rotation about an axis 5 transverse to the direction of travel. In Fig. 2 the fin 1 is pivotally mounted on the throw portion 3 of the crankshaft 5. The parallel movement of the fin is effected by identical toothed wheels 6, 7, an intermediate wheel 8 and a connecting rod 9, relatively to which the fin is angularly adjusted by means of a control cylinder 10 on the rod 9. In Fig. 3 the fin is divided into ports 1 and 2 rotatably mounted on the throw portions 3 and 4 of a crank-shaft 5 offset by 90 degrees, and so guided by means of wheels 6, 7, 8 and a crank-shaft 11 having throw portions 12, 13, that they move up and down by rotating so as to be always parallel to themselves. The support plate 14 is mounted on bearing blocks 15 and 16 on a base plate 17 so that the support plate and hence the fin parts are angularly adjustable by means of a control cylinder 18.
