[Also in Division G1] A linear dimension setting or checking gauge suitable for positioning a workpiece 6 in a machine tool is characterized by a series of relatively rotatable cams 1, 2, 3 adjacent cams being arranged to co-operate with one another for varying extents of relative displacement of the cams for in turn obtaining an aggregate linear displacement of a rod 9 by the cam 3. The cams 1, 2, 3 are rotatably mounted on a shaft 4 and are provided with flat surfaces 11, 13, 15 and stepped surfaces 12, 14, 16 respectively, and are separated by follower balls 7, so that, for example, rotation of cam 1 would cause axial movement of cam 2 through movement of a follower ball 7, hence positioning the rod 9 in the required position.
