776,471. Copy-turning. GOETZEWERKE F. GOETZE AKT.-GES. Dec. 22, 1954, No. 37072/54. Class 83 (3). In turning out-of-round piston-rings, the tools are controlled by a follower engaging a template rotating with the work and comprising limiting end-shapes, corresponding points on which are interconnected by straight lines so that the follower can be caused to trace the shape at any section between the ends, the various shapes corresponding to desired characteristics, e.g. radial pressure-distribution. The rings 27, Fig. 1, are clamped between rotatable sleeves 23, 25 and driven by shaft 26. Tools 6, 8 for boring and turning are mounted on slide 3 carried by saddle 2 slidable on bed 1. The template 17 is rotated by shaft 16 mounted in bearings in member 15 fixed to the saddle and having pivoted thereto the follower-arm 19 with roller 20. The arm is contacted by a part 13 adjustable along the length of lever 11 pivoted to the saddle at 12 and to the slide by rod 10, which is urged by springs 14 to press the roller against the template. The template is adjustable to engage a selected section with the roller. In a modification, three templates 31 ... 33, Fig. 2, are carried by shaft 34 mounted on a slide 29 adjustable on a member 28 fixed to the saddle. Slide 29 has pointers 38 ... 40 to co-operate with scales 35 ... 37 on member 28 to indicate the sectional profile engaged by roller 20.
