Abstract

968,967. Centrifugal strainer separators. F. U. GARRONE. Feb. 8, 1963, No. 5333/63. Heading B1D. A continuous centrifugal separator comprises a pair of superposed flat discoidal members 1, 2 having located between them a plurality of substantially triangular cells 3, the apices of which are directed towards the centre of the assembly, the side walls of the cells being perforate and inwardly curved, and the bases 6 of the cells remote from the centre of the assembly being imperforate, a plurality of openings 7 for the evacuation of the filtrate from the cells being provided in one of the discs. As shown, the sides are formed by wire mesh 4, 5 supported on perforated sheet metal 41, 5<SP>1</SP> Liquid to be treated passes from the chamber 8 through the openings 9 towards the periphery of the discoidal members, following a zig-zag course due to the arrangement of the cells in circumferential groups with the apices of one group in the spaces between the cells of the adjacent group nearer the centre of the assembly. Liquid passes through the walls of the cells and through the openings 7, while solids are retained and gradually projected towards the outer edge of the assembly and finally fall into a peripheral collector 10 surrounding the pair of discs.
