Abstract
829,975. Filters ; centrifugal separators. SCHADE, H. Dec. 16, 1957 [Dec. 14, 1956], No. 39069 /57. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] A filter comprises a plurality of curved elements 1 assembled such that the gaps between the elements increase from the entry surface towards the back of the filter and the angle between the tangent to the convex surface of the element and the direction of flow 4 towards the screen is greatest at the entry surface and decreases towards the back of the screen. The surface may be cleaned by a scraper 8 or by reverse flow in the direction 10. The elements are preferably formed from an elastic material and grooves made by lapping allow for the flow of filtrate and form the spacing member 2. The elements are preferably clamped at the back and their natural resilience urges them into contact at the screen surface. The elements may be in the form sheet, rod or bar material may be made from annular discs. In the latter case the assembly forms a cage which is also suitable as a cage of a centrifugal separator. The elements may also be assembled to provide a cylindrical filtering surface in which case the scraper is preferably of helical form.
