1385222 Filtration D A SAMA 29 Feb 1972 9227/72 Heading B1D Swimming pool water is filtered through a bed of pieces of open-celled polyurethane foam which are packed between upstream and downstream screens so that spaces between the pieces have little filtering effect, the filtering being done through the individual pieces which thus act as filters in parallel and series. This enables solids to accumulate uniformly throughout the bed thickness. Cell diameters may be 0.001-0.010 inches. Typical spacing between pieces is 0.05 inch. The bed may be held between flat screens in a cylindrical casing or between concentric cylindrical screens.
