Abstract

968,887. Clamps. STADIUM Ltd. Sept. 14, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21685/61. Heading E2B. A safety belt buckle comprises a body part 2 for attachment to one end 4 of the belt, a clamp actuating lever 14 pivoted to the body part, a clamping plate 12 pivoted to the body part 2 and positioned between the lever and the body part, means 26 for biasing the lever and clamping plate towards the body part for clamping a free end 24 of a belt between the clamping plate and body part, and a second means 38 biasing the clamping plate away from the lever, there being a lost-motion connection between the lever and the clamping plate so that movement of the lever away from the body part is not immediately effective to release the clamping plate from its clamping position on the body part. As shown, the clamping plate 12 includes a serrated portion 20 which co-operates with a portion 20 on the body part for clamping the free end of the belt. A catch member 42 on the lever 14 provides the lost plate motion connection between the plate 12 and the lever during the releasing motion of the lever.
