1318292 Buckles; clamps R NORTON 20 Aug 1970 40188/70 Headings E2A and E2B An overcentre type strap tensioning buckle has a frame 11, Figure 1, with a cross bar 13 to which one end 14 of a strap is fastened and has a lever 15 having flanges 16 pivotally connected at 17 to the frame 11. The lever 15 has a strap support 27 and has a plate 33 mounted thereon, the latter being formed at 32 to receive trunnions 30 of a strap engaging bar 29 therein. A pad 34, Figure 2, is provided and the strap is positioned as shown with the free portion 24 above the strap portion 25. When the strap is submitted to tension a lip 35 of the lever 15 engages the portion 24 of the strap, the portion 25 of the strap pulls towards the strap support 27 so that the lever tends to move in a clockwise direction. The strap is released by moving the lever in an anti-clockwise direction, the end of the lever adjacent the lip 35 thereof being raised manually. To prevent accidental release of the strap, the lever is retained in the strap fastening position by means of a resilient member 36. The latter is pivotally held to the lever 15 by the plate 33 and has arms 39 with extensions 40 which engage a portion 41 of the frame 15.
