Abstract

968,641. Weighing apparatus; accelerometers. WAYNE KERR LABORATORIES, and P. A. STOCK. July 17, 1963 [July 18, 1962], No. 27658/62. Headings G1K and G1W. Relates to damping means to reduce the oscillation of a spring balance. The damping means is connected in series with the spring and is of a non- resilient material such as sponge rubber which will absorb kinetic energy and not release it again as mechanical energy. In Fig. 1 the damping means 16 is connected between the spring and a suspending structure 15. Alternatively it may be between the spring and a load suspended from it (Fig. 2 not shown), or there may be a layer of damping material over a scale pan (Fig. 3 not shown). The arrangement of the damping means for bench mounted spring balances is described (Figs. 3, 4, 5, not shown). The spring balance may be associated with weighing or it may be in an accelerometer.
