Abstract

916,110. Digital weighing apparatus. WIRTH, W. June 5, 1961 [June 14, 1960], No. 20293/61. Class 40 (1). Weighing apparatus comprises a rigid body 4, suspended on two strings 1, 2, on which the points of application of the load 6 and an adjustable weight P are arranged. The strings are electrically maintained in vibration and means is provided for calculating the expression where Ti is the difference in periods (T 1 - T 2 ) of the strings, # is the ratio of the lengths of the strings and p is the ratio in which the strings are loaded by weight P. The Specification shows that the above expression, which is derived from the general equation of motion of the system, can, by suitable choice of parameters be made linearly dependent on the load. In the embodiment shown, unit 11 forms the difference frequency between signals from strings 1, 2, counter 12 counts a predetermined number of these difference signals and at the same time counts the corresponding number of signals from string 2. With the apparatus unloaded the latter number is arranged to be 1000, and when the apparatus is loaded the excess over 1000 is proportional to the load. An alternative method of calculating the above expression is illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown). The rigid body 4 may be a beam or a flat plate.
