Abstract

968,638. Printing apparatus. GESTETNER Ltd. July 3, 1963 [July 11, 1962], No. 26687/62. Heading B6C. The cylinders of a twin cylinder stencil duplicator are cleaned when necessary by an apparatus comprising a holder 10 from which project scraper cards 20 and 21 for the engagement of each with a cylinder. The cards project from the holder at angles of less than 90 degrees to a plane which is parallel to the plane through the cylinder axes, such angles being measured in the same angular direction from such first mentioned plane. The holder is mounted through arms 11 on a shaft 12 which is removably supported by journals in the side frames of the duplicator between which the cylinders are arranged. A handle 14 is provided for swinging the holder about the axis of the shaft 12 into its " cleaning " position when the cylinders are ready for cleaning, i.e. when the stencil and ink screen have been removed. A spring may be provided for biasing the apparatus into the " cleaning " position of the holder and in order to avoid contact between the screen and stencil mounting bar-which passes around the cylinders on two timing chains-and its associated cleaning card 20 or 21, a cam and follower arrangement 24, 26 actuated by the duplicator drive is provided to swing the holder 10 away from the cylinders during the relevant part of their rotation. The holder 10 incorporates a magazine 17 for storing fresh cleaning cards. Instead of two cards the holder may be adapted to receive one card suitably bent to present two of its opposed edges to the cylinders.
