Claims priority, application Germany March 19, 1953 4 Claims. (Cl. 101-173) The present invention relates to a high-speed cylinder printing press provided with a fiat reciprocating forme, with a cylindrical forme and with automatic sheet-feeding mechanism, wherein both formes and an impression cylinder are readily accessible for replacement and registering operations.
For carrying out two-colour printing operations, it is known to associate a printing forme cylinder with the impression cylinder of high-speed cylinder presses, in addition to the reciprocating ilat printing forme. In this connection, for carrying out job-printing operations, it is desirable that, as seen in the direction of rotation of the printing or `impression cylinder, the cylindrical forme should reach the printing position before the flat forme. For this purpose, the cylindrical forme with its inking mechanism is connected, as viewed in the direction of rotation of the impression cylinder, in front of the flat forme and the inking mechanism thereof, and said cylindrical forme is thus disposed behind the sheet-feeding means in the direction of rotation of the impression cylinder, while the sheet-feeding means is positioned after the flat forme in the direction of rotation of the impression cylinder. This arrangement is such that, in the registering positions, the printing segment of the impression cylinder, is more or less covered either by the sheet feeder or the cylindrical forme or the sheet delivery. Consequently, with these constructional forms, the cylindrical forme has been made so that it can be pivoted away in order to render the registering surface of the impression cylinder accessible, but this, however, makes the construction of the machine expensive and in addition the stability in the printing operation is reduced The invention is concerned with a novel construction of a single-revolution high-speed cylinder press having a flat forme and a cylindrical forme connected ahead of the Hat forme in the direction of rotation of the impression cylinder, with which arrangement ready access to the register surface of the impression cylinder is assured. According to the invention, in a high-speed cylinder press having a at forme and a cylindrical forme connected ahead of the latter in the direction of rotation of the impression cylinder, and having cylinder inking mechanisrns associated with the two formes, the spacing between the sheet feeder and the cylindrical forme is approximately equal to the sheet length of the printing segment of the impression cylinder. It is expedient for the cylindrical forme to be arranged substantially at the level of the mean horizontal plane of the impression cylinder, the inking rollers for the ilat forme then being located below and in front of the cylindrical forme. The printing segment is thus completely free in the position between the sheet feeder and the cylindrical forme, so that the necessary registering operations can easily be carried out. At the same time, however, accessibility to the cylindrical forme and the at forme is maintained.
The two inking mechanisms for the cylindrical forme and the at forme are advantageously adapted to be connected to one another by a connecting roller. This construction has the advantage that for the purpose of cleaning the inking mechanisms, these can be connected in series by the connecting roller, so that one cylinder washing device is sutlicient, the stripper device of which is associated with the inking cylinder of the inking mechanism for the flat forme.
For a better understanding of the invention, the same will now be described with reference to the accompany-i ing drawings, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates diagrammatically a longitudinal section through a high-speed cylinder press with the two inking mechanisms in the operative position, and
Figure 2 is a detail view on a larger scale showing the two inking mechanisms in the cleaning position.
The high-speed cylinder press illustrated in the drawings, comprises a type bed 2 which is displaceably carried by the machine frame 1 and which receives a flat printing forme 3. The press further includes an impression cylinder 4, sheet feed mechanism 6, 10 for :feeding sheets to be printed from a feed stack 5 to the impression cylinder 4, and a chain delivery mechanism 7, 8, adapted to transfer the printed sheets to a storage stack 9. The type bed 2, the impression cylinder 4 and the sheet feed mechanism 6, 10, and also the sheet delivery mechanism 7, 8, are controlled in conventional manner by drive means 11.
In order to carry out two-colour printing operations in one working operation, a forme cylinder 12 is positioned ahead ofthe iiat forme 3 in the direction of rotationr of the impression` cylinder 4, said forme cylinder 12 also being driven and controlled by the drive means 11.

Associatedwith `the forme cylinder 12, isa cylinder inking mechanism indicated generally at 13, and mechanism including an inking cylinder 14 fed with ink from an ink container 16 by means of a ductor 15 and associated distributor rollers, the inking cylinder 14 being arranged to deliver the ink by means of two applicator rollers 17, 18 to the cylindrical forme 19 arranged on the forme cylinder 12.
The forme cylinder 12 is mounted at substantially the same height as the impression cylinder 4, so that between the forme cylinder 12 and the release means 10 of the sheet feeder the impression cylinder 4 is suiciently exposed to permit the necessary registering operations to be carried out on the printing segment 20 of the impression cylinder. In other words, the center line passing through said segment 20 is substantially equidistantly spaced from the forme cylinder 12 and from the release means 10 of sheet feed mechanism 6.
The inking of the ilat forme 3 carried by the type bed 2, is eifected by a cylinder inking mechanism indicated generally at 21, said mechanism including friction rollers 22 disposed in an arc around the cylindrical forme and underneath the latter. In this manner, a space is left between the inking mechanism 21 and the type bed 2, the space being sufficient to permit the flat forme readily to be moved in and out, or to permit operations to be carried out on the flat forme. The inking mechanism 21 is supplied with ink from a container 25 by a ductor roller 23, which latter operates on an inking cylinder 24. The ductor roller 23 is located substantially at the same height as the applicator roller 17 of the inking mechanism 13 for the forme cylinder 12.
Associated with the applicator roller 17 is another friction roller 26 mounted for pivotal movement in an arc about the shaft of the applicator roller 17, and the roller 26 is adapted to pivot so far around the said shaft that the roller can also bear on the ductorI roller 23 which bears on the inking cylinder 24. In this manner, the roller 26 can be brought into a position interconnecting the two inking mechanisms 13, 21. In this position, the roller 26 can be used for cleaning both inking mechanisms 13, 21. i
The cleaning mechanism consists in a known manner of a device (not shown) forapplying a cleansing agent to the ductor roller 15 of the inking mechanism 13 and a stripper 28 provided with a drip tray 27, said stripper being suspended from rocker arms 29 and being adapted to bear on the inking cylinder 24. It is thus possible for both inking mechanisms to be cleaned with one cleaning device.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a single-revolution high-speed printing press; an impression cylinder having a printing segment, a reciprocating flat forme cooperating with said segment, a cylindrical forme cooperating with said segment in ad- Vance of said flat forme upon each revolution of said impression cylinder, an inking mechanism for each of said formes, respectively, provided with inking rollers, and means for feeding sheet material to said impression cylinder at a location advanced relative to said cylindricalV forme by an amount approximately equal to the length of said printing segment, whereby said printing segment is readily accessible to an operator when said press is assembled but not in operation, and connecting roller means pivotally connected (with and bearing on one of said inking mechanisms, pivoting of said connecting roller means causing the latter to also bear on the other of said linking mechanisms, whereby both inking mechanisms are interconnected by said connecting roller means to facilitate simultaneous cleaning of both said inking mechanisms.
` 2.- A single-revolution high-speed cylinder press according to claim 1, wherein the cylindrical forme is arranged substantially at the level of the mean horizontal plane of the impression cylinder.
3. A single-revolution high-speed cylinder press ac- ,4 cording to claim 1, wherein the inking rollers for the ilat forme are arranged below and in front of the cylindrical forme adjacent said cylinder.

In a single-revolution high-speed printing press; an impression cylinder having a printing segment, a reciprocating flat forme cooperating with said segment, a cylindrical forme cooperating with said segment in advance of said flat forme upon each revolution of said impression cylinder, a sheet feed mechanism including release means `for feeding each sheet to said impression cylinder, said sheet release means being spaced from said cylindrical forme and being disposed in advance of the latter, the center line passing through said segment 'being substantially equidistantly spaced from said sheet release means and said cylindrical forme, the axis of said cylindrical forme and that of said segment being arranged substantially at the same level, an inking mechanism for each of said formes, respectively, and provided with inking rollers, and connecting roller means pivotally connected with and bearing on one of said inking mechanisms, pivoting of said connecting roller means causing the latter to also bear on the other of said inking mechanisms, whereby both inking mechanisms are interconnected by said connecting roller means to facilitate simultaneous cleaning of both said inking mechanisms.
