Abstract

968,297. Labelling machines; endless conveyers. LABEL PROCESSES Ltd. April 25, 1963 [May 8, 1962], No. 17573/62. Headings B8A and B8F. A labelling machine of the kind where the label is carried on a backing strip A intermittently driven by rollers 6, 7 has photoelectric cells 9, 19 registering on the label a or article B respectively to operate a solenoid 8 connected to roller 7 to stop and start the movement of the strip. A web A is fed from a reel 1, past guide rollers and around a platform 5, one end of which may contain a heating element, through drive rollers 67 and to a take-up reel 21. The lower roller 6 is continuously operated. The upper roller 7 is connected by an arm 7b to the armature 8b of a solenoid 8. The solenoid is de-energized to commence the drive when an article breaks the beam from the photo-electric cell 19 and is energized to stop the drive when a registration mark on the labels or backing strip is identified by the photo-electric cell 9. The labels peeled from the strip are applied by a spring-loaded roller 12. The articles B are carried on an endless conveyer C provided with carriers or cradles c. The article is positioned on the carrier by resilient arms 18 which cause the rear edge of the article to engage a rib or lath c1 extending transversely of the conveyer between each article.
