Abstract

1,086,261. Labelling machines. ADHESIVE TAPES Ltd. April 5, 1965 [April 14, 1964], No. 15461/64. Heading B8F. A machine for applying pressure-sensitive adhesive labels initially secured to a backing strip comprises a supply reel 55, an applicator plate 40 mounted on a rotatable plate 42, and a take-up reel 34. Feed rollers 18, 24 and the take-up reel 34, through a belt drive 32, are driven by a pawl 8 engaging pins 12 of a ratchet wheel. The backing strip passes from the reel 55 past a roller 56, a pin 49 and round a pin 45 to a knife edge 43 from which it passes an edge 44 at the centre of a disc 42 before passing between the feed rollers 18, 24 to the reel 34. In operation an article being moved by conveyer means contacts an operating plate 3 to actuate the pawl 8 to move the rollers 18, 24 to feed the strip causing a label to be projected under an applicator roller 52,as the backing strip moves round the knife edge 43 and the article moves under it.
