Abstract

1,120,903. Feeding labels from magazines in labelling machines. JAGENBERG-WERKE A.G. 11 Aug., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 35961/66. Heading B8F. Labels 12 are removed from a magazine 13 by adhesion segments 1 each pivoted on a rotary carrier 2 by means of a gear-wheel 5 turned by a toothed segment 8 under cam control, so that on approaching the magazine 13 the segments 1 pivot forwards, i.e. in the direction of movement of the carrier, and rock rearwardly on the labels as they pick them up. The toothed segment 8 is formed on one end of a bell-crank lever 6 carrying a roller 9 guided by a track 10. The segments 1 are gummed by a rotating roller 11. Grippers 14 on a rotary conveyer 15 remove the labels from the segments 1, the conveyer 15 attaching the labels to articles, e.g. bottles. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the conveyer (15) attaches labels to articles (16) carried on a conveyer belt (18), the labels being supplied alternately from a pair of rotary carriers. Again, the segments 1 may pick up the labels by suction, carry them past a gumming roller and attach them directly to the articles; or they may pick up labels coated with thermoplastic, the gumming roller being replaced by a heating, device. The grippers 14 may be replaced by suction elements.
