968,218. Applying cigarette mouthpieces. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Sept. 18, 1961 [Sept. 22, 1960], No. 33412/61. Heading A2C. A machine for applying cigarette uniting bands 22 about a cigarette assembly C comprises a rolling drum 14 and a concave surface 16 which is slowly axially movable during operation of the machine to permit cleaning. Cleaning brushes 34, 36 may be provided on the ends of the drum 14. The concave 16 is reciprocally mounted on a bed 32 that is provided with a block 56 having a slot 54 in which run pins 52. The pins 52 are provided on an endless chain 50 trained over a sprocket 48 which is slowly driven by gearing from a worm 38 on the shaft of the cigarette assembly receiving mechanism 26.
