Abstract

1,086,930. Escalators. WAGGONFABRIK JOS. RATHGEBER A.G. July 25, 1966 [April 13, 1966], No. 33306/66. Heading B8A. The hand rail 3 of an escalator is driven by an endless chain 8 carrying blocks (11) (Figs. 2, 6, 7, and 8, not shown), which frictionally engage the radially-inner surface of the hand rail 3 and press the latter against reaction rollers 14. Instead of the latter an endless chain (16) (Fig. 7, not shown), may be provided. The blocks (11) may have a V-shaped recess which engages a correspondingly-shaped longitudinally-extending rib projecting from the inner surface of the hand rail. The chain 8 is mounted on a frame (17) (Fig. 3, not shown) which is pivotally mounted on the main frame of the escalator at (18). A frame (12) may be provided as a reaction abutment for the chain 8.
