Abstract

967,994. Automatic current and voltage control systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 3, 1961 [Jan. 21, 1960], No. 2286/60. Heading G3R. An electrical regulator employing a saturable inductance and having a substantially constant output current or voltage is provided with an arrange - ment whereby any increase of current or voltage resulting from abnormal operating conditions is limited. As shown, a saturable choke sc is connected in series with two output transformers OT1 and OT2 and serves to maintain the output current, for example, of the regulator substantially constant. The output voltage of the regulator at terminals OT is applied over a rectifier bridge Rfb2 to a control winding mw of a transductor T whose output is fed over a rectifying bridge Rfb1 to saturating windings sw1 and sw2 of the transformers OT1 and OT2. With rise of the output voltage of the regulator the current through the transductor winding mw rises but has no appreciable affect until it exceeds a constant bias current supplied to a biasing winding bw, beyond which the transductor output current increases abruptly to saturate the transformers OT1 and OT2. These transformers therefore draw an increased current which produces an increased voltage drop across the choke sc and thereby reduces the output voltage provided by the transformers. To limit the current output of constant voltage regulators the transductor winding mw would be made current responsive. The transductor may be replaced by transistors having the requisite output characteristics. Specification 872,000 is referred to.
