Abstract

967,582. Breast rolls of paper-making machines &c. KIMBERLY-CLARK CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1960 [Sept. 21, 1959], No 31832/60. Heading D2A. A breast roll of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine has a core 12 on which are fitted annular plates 17 having flanges 16, the sides of which are welded to adjacent flanges 16; the plates 17 having holes 18, and slots 27 to receive vanes 26 the outer ends of which have slots 29 to receive a flat wire helix 28 wound thereabout. The vanes 26 are tilted forwardly in the direction of rotation indicated by the arrow 31 to prevent water draining into the roll from being flung back against the wire-cloth by centrifugal force. Water jets may be directed between the vanes 26, or, after removing cover plates screwed to the end of the roll, water may also be directed through the holes 18 for flushing out the roll to remove accumulated fibres.
