Abstract

1,229,368. Lap-forming apparatus. PAPER CONVERTING MACHINE CO. Inc. 12 Dec., 1969 [16 July, 1969], No. 60809/69. Headings D1L and D1N. A web forming apparatus comprises a rotatably mounted drum having side walls 37, 38 through which there are means 41, 42 for delivering shredded pulp axially under pressure. Between the side walls and mounted for rotation therewith there is a baffle 53, 54 which diverts the inward axial flow of shredded pulp to a radially outward direction. The shredded pulp is collected on a foraminous web (not shown) which travels on the periphery of the drum. The baffle plate may be fitted with a plurality of tabs to provide an even distribution of the pulp (Figs. 4 and 5). The baffle plate can be supported from bars which adjustably space the side walls 37, 38 of the drum. A carrier web (28) may be provided on the foraminous web to collect the shredded pulp as a layer thereon (Fig. 6).
