In an hydraulic pump or motor having a rotary cylinder block co-operating with a distributer having high and low pressure ports, at least one resonator cavity is disposed between the ports so that each cylinder passing from one port to the other communicates with a resonator which is so tuned that the pressure in the cylinder is substantially the pressure in the port when the cylinder reaches the port. Resonators may be provided between each port and may be tunable. A single resonation of the type described in Specification 914,274 may be provided together with variable capacity chambers to compensate for inner and outer dead centre conditions.
