Abstract

1,125,587. Reciprocating pumps and motors. J. G. ASKVIK and R. ENGESETH. Nov. 4, 1965 [Nov. 6, 1964], No. 46715/65. Heading F1A. In a hydraulic pump or motor with at least one pair of cylinders connected to a common chamber 27, the pistons 19, 24 co-operate with eccentrics 16 and 20, respectively, eccentric 16 being secured to the shaft 14 and eccentric 20 being rotatable relative to the shaft to vary the phase of relative piston reciprocation. An extension 21 of the eccentric 16 has a projection (40) Fig. 3 (not shown), which defines together with a casing 33 secured to the shaft 14 a pair of chambers (37A, 37B) connected to sources of liquid under pressure. One chamber (37A) is supplied with liquid under a variable pressure and the other (37B) is connected to the interior of the housing 10, which is at a constant pressure, by means of connection 46 to the inlet channel 28. The eccentric 20 will assume a phase displacement relative to the eccentric 16 in which the forces acting to rotate the eccentric 20 relative to the shaft 14 due to the pressures in the chamber 27 and the chambers (37A, 37B), Fig. 3, in the casing 33 are balanced. Stop means are provided to limit the maximum relative rotation of the eccentric 20 and shaft 14 to 180 in order that the maximum effective capacity of the pump or motor may be varied from zero to a maximum. The liquid supply circuit to the chamber (37A) in the casing 33 under variable pressure may have a safety valve to prevent overload. Each eccentric has a plurality of radially arranged pistons associated therewith, Fig. 2 (not shown). Needle bearings 25 and 36 are provided between the piston shoes 17, 22 and the eccentrics and between the eccentric extension 21 and the shaft 14, respectively.
