Abstract
An austentic, age-hardenable alloy, suitable for use at elevated temperatures in atmospheres containing combustion products of leaded fuels, has the following percentage compositions: .C.0.65-0.75 .Mn.5.5-6.9 .Si.0.45-0.85 .Cr.20.5-22.0 .Ni.1.4-1.9 .N.0.18-0.28 .S.0.021-0.055 .Fe.the balance The alloy is further characterized in that the ratio <FORM:0966633/C6-C7/1> lies between 1.83 and 2.67. Heat treatment of the alloy consists in solution treating at 1800-2200 DEG F. for 15 minutes to 4 hours, quenching and ageing at 1200-1700 DEG F. for 1 to 24 hours. Alternatively the alloy may be aged in service. As a further alternative, the alloy may be hot worked and then aged at 1400-1700 DEG F. for up to 8 hours.
