Abstract

966,460. Casting composite cylinders. SOLO KLEINMOTOREN G.m.b.H. June 10, 1963 [June 16, 1962], No. 22983/63. Heading B3F. A cylinder liner 4 is brought to cylindrical form from a flat sheet, e.g. by rolling and a cylinder jacket is then cast around it. The gap 3 in the liner is left open and the liner is held in position in the mould by plungers 5 which cover the preformed ports 2 in the liner. The ports are preferably made by stamping the burrs formed thereby serving to key the cast metal, e.g. aluminium into position. The liner may alternatively be roughened by rolling &c. or by spraying on metal such as Al, or the sheet from which it is made may be of steel plated with Al, or of other metal on which a metal layer is applied galvanically.
