Abstract

966,166. Dry cleaning. HUPP CORPORATION. April 8, 1963 [April 10, 1962], No, 13828/63. Heading D1A. A dry cleaning machine which is automatically controlled by a timer is characterized in that the timer is rendered inoperative during the drying and solvent reclaiming part of the cycle and is restarted by a pressure sensitive switch when drying has been completed to the desired extent. The solvent is vaporized from the drum 6 and condensed in a condenser 32 in conventional manner. The solvent and any water present pass through filter 49 and water is expelled through channel 53 as it is lighter. The solvent then flows along pipe 54 into a chamber 56 which has an outlet 57 into a reservoir 22,which outlet is constricted to allow only a particular rate of flow of solvent. When solvent flows into chamber 56 faster than it can escape the pressure in chamber 56 and hence also in bellows 59 increases and keeps switch 61 open, but when the drying cycle is complete the rate of flow of solvent into chamber 56 drops below the rate of flow through outlet 57 and the pressure drops thus closing switch 61. While this switch is open the timer is inoperative. The operating cycle of this machine may be initiated by means of a coin.
