Abstract

965,823. Shearing. STEEL CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING CO. (NOTTS) Ltd. June 13, 1963 [March 14, 1962], No. 9731/62. Heading B3W. A frame for a shear or press-brake comprises a pair of upstanding side-plates 1, a bolsterreceiving member 2 welded between corresponding edges of the side-plates, a back-plate 3 welded between the side-plates at a distance from the edges to which the bolster receiving member is welded and extending downwards from the top of the side-plates to terminate above the level of the bolster-receiving member, a horizontal plate 8 welded between the sideplates and to the lower portion of the rear face of the back-plate, a front-plate 4 extending between the side-plates from the top of the side-plates downwards to the same level as the back-plate 3 and means for removably securing the front-plate to the side-plates to define with the back-plate and the side-plates a deep slot like compartment for housing a plate-like carrier 12 for a movable shear blade 13, together with one or more bracing pieces 9 removably secured to and between the back-plate 3 and the front-plate 4 above the lower edge thereof. The side-plates 1 are notched at 16 for access to the bolster-receiving member 2 and have forward extensions 1A which are connected by plates 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 welded in place and by a plate 24, secured by screws, which forms a work-table. There are also extension arms 25 to support wide plates. The bolster receiving member 2 is adjustable relative to the movable blade 12 and is fully described in Specification 896,761. The front-plate 4 carries a bar 31 having eleven bores 32 forming hydraulic cylinders for holddowns 31 and is fully described in Specification 965,824. The movable blade carrier is driven by a reversible electric motor and is connected thereto by at least two links journalled on eccentrics on a mainshaft. The drive mechanism is fully described in Specification 965,824.
