965,822. Shearing. STEEL CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING CO. (NOTTS) Ltd. June 13, 1963 [March 14, 1962], No. 9729/62. Heading B3W. A guillotine comprises a frame, a bolster for a fixed lower blade, a carrier for a vertically movable upper blade, a shaft rotatably mounted in the frame parallel to, and alongside the carrier on the opposite side to the bolster, two or more eccentrics on the shaft and links journalled at one end on the eccentrics and extending upwardly and then forwardly to pivotal connections with the upper edge of the carrier. The machine comprises side-plates 1 joined by a front plate 4, a back plate 3 and a fabricated work-table 2, 24, 20, 17 and 21. The upper blade carrier 12 slides between the plates 3 and 4 and has links 51 pivoted to its upper edge. The lower ends of the links are journalled on eccentrics 52 mounted on a shaft 53. A worm-wheel 56 on the shaft is driven by a worm 57 on a transverse shaft 58, which is driven through gearwheels 60 and 61 and a clutch 63, 64 by a reversible electric motor 66. The clutch is operated by an hydraulic cylinder 69 supplied with fluid from a pump 71 driven by a motor 72. There are hold-downs 34 spaced along a bar 31 attached to the front-plate 4 and supplied with fluid from the pump 71. An adjustable stopbar 75 positions the work.
