Abstract

1,067,920. Shearing. F. MOELLER and K. NEUMANN, [trading as VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT MOELLER and NEUMANN]. Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 5, 1963; Aug. 17, 1964], No. 49677/64. Heading B3W. In a plate shear the upper blade holder 2 is positioned by hydraulic cylinder assemblies 6, 8, 9 to suit the thickness of the plate to be cut and the lower blade holder 3 is given a rocking motion by hydraulic motors 12, 13 so that the curved edge of the blade rolls along a horizontal plane which passes through the edge of the upper cutter only when the upper cutter is in the position to suit the thinnest material which the shear is intended to cut. The path traversed by the curved edge of the lower cutter is always the same, so that when thick plates are being cut, the edges of the cutters do not overlap, but the depth of cut is sufficient to cause separation of the remainder of the thickness of the plate. Operation.-Fluid from a pump P1 is admitted to the end 12a of the motor 12 until the lower cutter touches the underside of the plate and raises it against the upper cutter to begin the cut at the left-hand side of the plate. Pressure fluid is then admitted to the end 12b of the motor 12, a valve 54 is opened, and the valve 52 closed so that fluid forced out of the end 12a can only pass to the end 13a of the motor 13. As a result the left-hand end of the cutter holder 2 is lowered and the right-hand end is raised. The path of the blade is also controlled by an outwardly inclined guide 20, Fig. 1 (not shown), formed in the left-hand side of the shear frame and a pivotable guide 23 mounted in the right-hand side of the frame and also outwardly inclined. In a first modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the lower blade is immovable and the upper blade is driven by eccentrics on a shaft journalled in the lower part of the machine and connected by rods to a shaft which passes through the upper cutter holder. This latter shaft is eccentrically mounted in the upper cutter holder and in this embodiment the gap between the cutters is adjusted by rotation of the shaft, to suit the plate thickness. At each end of the upper cutter holder are rollers, one of which runs on a fixed outwardly inclined surface 220 formed on the machine frame, and the other of which runs on an outwardl yinclined surface pivoted to the other side of the frame and able to rotate about its pivot against the action of an hydraulic cylinder. In a second modification. Fig. 9 (not shown), the lower cutter is immovable, the upper cutter is driven by eccentrics mounted in the upper part of the machine, it is guided by one fixed and one pivotably mounted surface and the whole of the upper part of the machine is supported by nuts fitted on four vertical columns, the cutter gap being adjusted by simultaneous rotation of the nuts.
