Abstract

A pressure-sensitive transfer medium, e.g. a carbon paper or type-writer ribbon, comprises a film of porous plastics material in which the pores are distributed non-uniformly across the thickness of the film and are filled with an ink in which the plastics material is insoluble. The pores may be concentrated near one surface of the film. The plastics material may be dissolved in a suitable solvent, and a mixture of ink and filler dispersed thereon. The plastics material may be nylon, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl alcohol, epoxy resins, cellulose acetate or cellulose acetate butyrate. The filler may be diatomaceous earth, glass fibre, graphite, talc, boehmite alumina, silica powder or synthetic fibres. The ink may be fluid or gelled. In Examples I to III, the ink comprises carbon black, other black pigments, methyl violet, nigrosine, polyethylene glycol dilaurate and oleic acid. The Examples IV and V this same ink is gelled by milling it with bentonite.ALSO:An ink for a pressure-sensitive transfer medium, e.g. a carbon paper or type-writer ribbon, comprises carbon black, other black pigments, methyl violet, nigrosine, polyethylene glycol dilaurate and oleic acid. In the examples IV and V this same ink is gelled by milling it with bentonite.
