Abstract

965,252. Hot-water boilers. STOOKUNIE DELFT N. V. Feb. 13, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 5215/61. Heading F4A. An oil-fired hot water boiler comprises a vertical, cylindrical combustion chamber 1 disposed within a concentric water jacket having an outer wall 2 and flow and return connections 77, 80, combustion gases from a burner mounted at the top of the chamber passing downwardly therethrough and reversing in a lower chamber 6 of larger diameter than the combustion chamber and having a saucer-shaped bottom 52 to flow upwardly through a ring of firetubes 4, 5 into an annular smoke box 7 whence they discharge into a flue, not shown. To protect the internal wall of the smoke box from excessive heat the annular cover 11 of the combustion chamber carrying the oil burner is countersunk in the space surrounded by the smoke box and carries on its underside a ring 38 of refractory material. A hood 40 directs the oil flame centrally down the chamber 1 to prevent its contact with the wall 3 thereof. Air is supplied to the burner by a blower 14 the outlet duct of which carries the oil supply pipe 22 and the burner spray head 8 which is enclosed in an air cone 29. The blower and burner can be raised as a unit about a hinge 17 for cleaning purposes. The boiler is enclosed in a square section insulated casing 61, provided with inspection ports 55, 74 whilst the blower-burner assembly is enclosed in a detachable hood 71.
