Abstract
1,246,454. Hot water boilers. R. GOSSALTER. 21 Oct., 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 49923/68. Heading F4A. The invention relates to a boiler for heating one or more liquids, the boiler comprising two double-walled thimble-shaped hollow members of differing diameter, the smaller member being disposed within the other member so as to define a central combustion space and an annular flue passage; a third member which is thermally insulated, is disposed around the larger member to define therewith a second annular flue passage which communicates with the first annular flue passage. The boiler shown in Fig. 1 comprises a first hollow member 1 which defines a combustion space 4 and a space 7 for liquid to be heated. A second hollow member 2 is disposed around the first member and a third hollow member 3 is disposed around the second member, the members defining annular flue passages 5 and 6 through which gases from the combustion chamber 4 discharge to the flue outlet 11. The second member 2 defines a liquid space 7 whereas the hollow space within the third hollow member is filled with insulation material 8. The open end of the third member 3 is closed by a hollow cover 16 which is also filled with insulation material 8. The cover is hingedly mounted and supports a fuel burner. Liquid to be heated is supplied at 14 and passes to the spaces 7 within the first and second hollow members 1 and 2 finally discharging through outlet 15. The frusto-conical shape of the combustion chamber permits recirculatory gas flow 17. In Fig. 2 the annular flue passage between the first and second hollow members 1 and 2 is divided into two parallel flow passages 5a, 5b by means of a hollow dividing wall member 1a which also defines a space 7 for flow of liquid to be heated. The second hollow member 2 is supported by means of a spigot 18 which engages a socket carried by the third hollow member 3. The flue outlet is indicated at 11 and an explosion flap at 19; an observation orifice is provided at 25. In Fig. 4 the second hollow member 2 is divided by an internal partition 2a into two chambers 7 and 7a, a first liquid to be heated being supplied through inlet 14 to chambers 7 and a second liquid to be heated being supplied through inlet 7a to the chamber 7a. The inner wall of the second hollow member 2 is arranged for removal by means of a flange joint 29.
