Abstract

965,228. Cables. WHITNEY BLAKE CO. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 22, 1959], No. 31962/60. Heading H1A. A communication cable 26 comprises one or more pairs of insulated electrical conductors enclosed in a sheath 30, each of the pairs being twisted to form lays of different lengths, the insulation being formed by extruded thermoplastic insulating material, e.g. polyethylene, having an integral web 20 joining the two members of a pair, and different coloured coatings or stripes over a portion or all of the extruded insulation to facilitate pair identification. The coatings and stripes are extruded using apparatus, e.g. as described in Specification 950,741 (see Division B5). The insulating sheath 30 of thermoplastic material is surrounded by a metallic shield 32 and plastic sheath 34. Air or inert gas fills the spaces between the pairs of conductors. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 821,303.
