Abstract

964,441. Fractionating columns. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd., and PETROCARBON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 2, 1961], No. 35497/61 Heading B1R. A fractionating column comprises perforated trays 9 clamped between adjacent open-ended shell sections 1 and between shell sections 1 and the top and bottom shell sections 16 and 17, the shell sections 16 and 17 being formed with one or more inlet or outlet openings. Each tray has a wall 12 projecting above and below the tray forming with the shell of the column liquid downcomers 10. The column is preferably of rectangular cross-section and the shell made of a brazeable or weldable metal or alloy. The column is bolted together by rods passing through aligned holes in the flanges of the shell section. Brazing foil may be placed between the contacting surface of the sections and the whole column brazed together by immersion in a suitable salt bath.
