Abstract
964,429. Cooling systems for I.C. engines. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON. Dec. 13, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1959], No.42908/60. Heading F4U. [Also in Division F1] An element 14, Fig. 1, connected to the cooling system of an engine 5 and deformable by internal water pressure against spring loading 16 carries a guide 21 which thus indicates the temperature and fullness of the system. Definite overpressure causes the element 14 to touch an electrical contact 22 and connect up a warning light, before a radiator filler plug safety valve 11 is forced open. There is a water pump 8, and a filling vent 20 closed off when the filler plug is in position. A second electrical contact connecting up the light on underfilling may be provided. In a modification, the element 14 is replaced by a diaphragm 24, Fig. 2, moved upwards by increasing system pressure and which has a conductor 29 which in the position shown corresponding to underfilling bridges between conductors 32, 36 and completes through springs 34, 40 the circuit 38, 41 of a lamp. Completion of filling raises the diaphragm 24 sufficiently to break the circuit, which is not again made until on overheating the diaphragm forces the sleeve portion 39 against a contact 43. Air cushions may replace the springs 34, 40, alternative electrical connections being provided.
