Abstract

1,154,642. Internal combustion engine cooling liquid systems. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 28 Sept., 1966, No. 43335/66. Heading F4U. A cooling liquid system for an internal combustion engine comprises an internal combustion engine 1, a pump 2, a thermostat 3 and a radiator 4 arranged in series in a coolant circuit and an overflow-supply container 5, open to the atmosphere, connected to the circuit through a valve arrangement which is mounted directly on the thermostat housing, said valve arrangement comprising a first valve which opens when the coolant pressure rises to a predetermined first value to allow coolant to overflow into the container and a second valve which opens when the coolant pressure drops to a predetermined second value to allow coolant in the container to be drawn back into the circuit. The valve arrangement is carried by a removable filler cap 12. The container 5 may be formed by a plastics bag fitted with a filler cap 5a.
