Abstract
1466353 Cooling IC engines BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 21 March 1974 [22 March 1973] 06652/76 Divided out of 1466352 Heading F4U In a cooling system for an I.C. engine, preferably of the type described in U.K. Specification 1,421,002 and Specification 1,466,352, wherein the circulation of coolant in zone 3 is prevented until a predetermined temperature is reached or a predetermined time has elapsed, one or more venting conduits extend from the cooling system. As shown, a conduit 38 extends from the radiator 9 to the thermostat housing 11, and a conduit 41 extends from the housing or the cooling jacket of the engine and meets a further conduit 39 which extends to a coolant reservoir. A float valve 42 (Fig. 1), 111 (Fig. 3) is provided at the junction of conduits 39, 41, the valve being closed by the coolant when the coolant reaches a sufficiently high level. The float valve 111 comprises a conical valve member 112 with a cylindrical guide portion 113. The venting conduits 39 and 41 open into a corresponding valve seat 114. Upon filling of the system with coolant, air can escape by way of the venting conduits until the coolant forces the float valve against the seating 114. The float valve also prevents fluid flow in the conduits 39, 41.
