Abstract

At least the impact area of an anode for an X-ray tube consists of an alloy of 1 to less than 5% Re, the balance being W. The alloy may include 5-25% of one or more metals having a vapour pressure not exceeding 10-5 mm. Hg. at 2000 DEG C. The anode may be made by compressing a mixture of W and Re powders and covering the compressed powder with a layer of W powder (and possibly an additional layer of Mo powder); after compression the composite body is sintering at 2300-2800 DEG C. and forging at 1400-1600 DEG C.
