Abstract
The compacted body comprises a chlorate, a decompsn. catalyst being an oxide of Cu and/or Ni, and an Si alloy, e.g., Mg/Si whose exothermic oxidn. supports the decompsn. of the chlorate. In an example, compsn. comprises by wt. 92% NaC103, 3% Si/Mg (50/50) 1% Cu oxide and 4% Ni oxide, and is preheated to 200 degrees and compressed at 600 kg/cm2, to form a sintered body. Pure oxygen is provided for respiration or welding e.g., in rockets or submarines.
