Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the oxidation of a Fe alloy during sintering and obtain a sound sintered body by using a waxy substance made of hydrocarbon as a lubricant and thermally decomposing the lubricant to generate a nonoxidizing gas.
CONSTITUTION: Iron powder is mixed with 10W60wt% powder of a Cu-Sn mixture or a Cu-Sn alloy contg. 1W25wt% Sn and 0.2W3wt% waxy substance made of hydrocarbon. This mixture is charged into an airtight furnace, and the internal atmosphere of the furnace is composed of ≤3mol% O2, ≥79mol% gaseous decomposition product of the waxy substance and ≥18mol% gaseous combustion product at ≥500°C. The mixture is then sintered at 800W1,150°C for ≤30min.
