Abstract

Compounds having the general formula I: <FORM:0963987/C1/1> wherein R is a carboxylic or sulphonic acyl group, R1 is hydrogen, alkali metal, ammonium, organic ammonium or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and n is 1 to 4, are prepared by oxidizing mercaptans of the general formula III: <FORM:0963987/C1/2> with hydrogen peroxide or sodium perchlorate to give the corresponding amino-disulphides (i.e. compounds of formula I wherein R=H), and then acylating these with an acyl halide such as acetyl-chloride, methane sulphonyl chloride or benzene sulphonyl chloride.
